Sublimation is a process in which dyes are printed onto a special paper. The dyes have to be dispersed dyes and not regular printer ink. Then the paper is placed on fabric and put in a pre-heated press. The press applies about 400° F to the paper and fabric. The dyes on the paper are turned into a vapor and are absorbed by the fabric. The dyes penetrate the fiber in the fabric and become permanent.

The dyes used for sublimation can only be purchased from a select group of distributors. Please check out our links if you are interested in finding a list of some of them.

Sublimation printing onto such items as t-shirts, golf shirts, sweatshirts, and linen gives more color possibilities, versatility and resolution than other types of printing. If properly done the prints will not fade. They will never crack or peel as happens sometimes with screen-printing or vinyl transfers. Even after numerous washings your prints remain bright and clear. When Brookline shirts are sublimated even the print it self wicks away body moisture.
